March 2022 will make two years since we had to shut our doors to visitors due to the COVID pandemic. We definitely thought that by now we would be back to “normal,” but, like everyone else, we are dealing with the reality of “new normal.” Throughout the past two years, we have strived to keep going in the best ways possible given that so many of our office volunteers are seniors dealing with chronic health conditions. We are rolling with the ups and downs of not knowing where and when we will have in-person meetings and how best to conduct them. We have mastered Zoom and are now in the process of learning how to do hybrid meetings so that we will be ready to invite you back to our office as soon as it is safe. (If you aren't sure what we mean by hybrid, be sure to take a look at our blog from 26 July 2021 on Zoom webinars.)
In spite of all of the challenges, St. Louis Genealogical Society is alive and well, and an enormous part of that is due to our wonderful members and friends. We are so incredibly fortunate that you are always there when we ask for support and additional financial help. Your response to our November donation appeal has been amazing and will ensure that StLGS enters the new year on solid footing. Our office staff and regular volunteers will continue to do everything we can to make your membership in StLGS valuable. And, of course, we welcome your input and your help all the time.
Update on Schnucks eScrip
After our blog on 22 November 2021, we heard from several of you about Schnucks discontinuing their eScrip program, which was a way of giving back to non-profits via shopping in Schncks stores. It is true that the eScrip program is no longer being used by Schnucks as of the end of May 2021; however, you can now use the new Schnucks app to designate your reward points to go to a non-profit. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Schnucks seems to have pre-arranged a selection of non-profits for each one of its stores, and StLGS does not appear to be one of the charities that Schnucks is now supporting. So, if you have an old Schnucks Community or eScrip card, you will want to discard it, and, if you have any “pull” at your local Schnucks, you might want to talk to the manager to see if StLGS can be added to their list.
In the meantime, those of you shopping with Amazon, don’t forget their Smile program which still, fortunately, lets you donate to the charity of your choice. StLGS is very grateful to Amazon and for your support through your purchases from them.
