July StLGS Meetings and Events

As we mentioned in June, the first News Flash blog of each month has typically been about upcoming StLGS and other genealogy events. In March of this year, however, we went into quarantine, and had to rethink our entire 2020 calendar. Thanks to the continuing hard work on the part of our StLGS volunteers, we are able to bring you our revised schedule for July featuring more exciting online events. Stay cool during the heat of summer—no matter where you live—get comfortable in front of your computer or tablet, and soak up new ideas, knowledge, and skills from some of our most experienced genealogy lecturers this month. Here is what is coming up:

StLGS Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 11 July 2020, 10:00 a.m. (Central)

"Finding Family Treasures on the Resale Market," by Laura Mackinson, StLGS Quarterly co-editor and social media committee chair. Antique malls, flea markets, estate sales, and online auction sites can be surprising resources for family history research. Learn how to search and what you can find to help you learn more about your ancestors. Free, open to all; however, pre-registration is needed if you would like to view this meeting live. The meeting will be recorded and posted online; you do NOT need to register to view the recording.
  • If you registered for the June monthly meeting, you do not need to do anything. You already are on the mailing list to receive an invitation to the July meeting.
  • If you have not previously registered for the livestream lecture and would like to attend, send an email to programs@stlgs.org.
  • You will receive an email invitation a few days before the meeting with a link and password for the Zoom presentation and a link to the handout.
  • Only the first 100 people who log into the StLGS presentation on Zoom the morning of 11 July can attend the live meeting due to limitations on the Zoom site. However, the recording will be available to everyone for ninety days after it is posted with no restrictions.
  • And please note: Although you can attend the meeting without any Zoom software, if you have already downloaded an older version, you may be prompted to upgrade. Be sure to do that before the meeting so you don't lose time.
More information available on the Monthly Meeting page on our website.

It will be livestreamed and recorded and posted online in the Members Only area of our website.
  • If you would like to participate in the livestreaming, you must register by Wednesday, 15 July 2020.
    • StLGS members: Send an email to programs@stlgs.org. You will receive an email invitation on 16 or 17 July with a link and password for the Zoom class and a link to the handout.
    • Non-members: This class is only available to StLGS members. If you are interested, please consider joining the society. Membership information is available on our website.
  • Only the first 100 people who log into the class on Zoom the afternoon of 18 July can attend the live class due to limitations on the Zoom site. However, the recording will be available to StLGS members after it is posted.
  • And please note: Although you can attend the class without any Zoom software, if you have already downloaded an older version, you may be prompted to upgrade. Be sure to do that before the class so you don't lose time.
