After almost three years of pandemic uncertainty, the one thing that St. Louis Genealogical Society can be sure of is the loyalty and generosity of our members and friends. If you have been a regular reader of our blog, you know that like many non-profits, we have struggled to stay active and vital during a very difficult time. Because we have been so limited in what we can do to raise funds, we have relied more than usual on donations, and we are just overwhelmed by how incredibly generous so many of you have been.
The response to our annual donation letter this year has been wonderful, and we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. As our loyal staff of volunteers continues to work both in the office and from home, we are buoyed up by the knowledge that what we are doing is both meaningful and appreciated. We are scanning and indexing records and posting them online as quickly as possible. We are working on our Quarterly journal, adding dozens of pages to our website, updating data and text on the website, adding biographies to our online collection, maintaining our office computer network, and planning and organizing an exciting program for the new year. Everything we do is for you, and your generosity is making it possible for us to continue these projects and improvements.
Our Holiday Present to You . . . Interactive Maps!
Just in time for the holidays, our extraordinary map guru, Jim Bellenger, and the team of volunteers who work on our website have an exciting gift for our members and friends. Check out the new "Interactive Maps" button on our home page. Click on it to see the fantastic new "Web Map Links" page that currently links to thirteen maps of congregations, cemeteries, and geographical boundaries in St. Louis City and County. Click on a thumbnail to get to the map page of interest.
- Each map on the cemetery and congregations pages is interactive.
- Enlarge the map first by using your mouse's scroll wheel or the plus/minus buttons on the upper left of the map.
- Then, if you hover your mouse pointer on any of the colored arrow graphics, you get the name of the location.
- Click on the arrow to get a link to take you directly to the specific congregation or cemetery page. (Note, however, that data on those pages may be restricted to members of St. Louis Genealogical Society so be sure to log into the website first, and, if you aren't already a member, why not join now?)
- The pages of St. Louis City and County maps work a little differently, but instructions are on every page.
