StLGS April Genealogy Meetings AND Remember to Register for the Family History Conference!

As the weather warms and spring gets underway, we know you are thinking about getting outside and enjoying more activities with others. So why not join your genealogy friends at St. Louis Genealogical Society for some new and interesting meetings and classes? We have lots going on during the next few weeks, and whether you attend in person or via Zoom, we look forward to seeing you. That said, here's what is coming up . . .

April StLGS Hybrid Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 8 April 2023

"Veterans' Records at the National Archives at St. Louis: Understanding the 1973 NPRC Fire and its Impact on Research," presented by National Archives records specialist, Eric Kilgore; 10:00 a.m. (Central) at the StLGS office in Maplewood; free, open to all. The National Archives at St. Louis is home to the largest repository of government records outside of Washington, D.C., including the official Military Personnel Files of veterans who served during the last century. However, the aftermath of the catastrophic fire that occurred in 1973 presents a variety of challenges for researchers. We will examine the fire and the losses and myths surrounding it, as well as explore alternative records for learning more about the twentieth-century veterans in your family.  Because of limited space at the StLGS office, everyone needs to register for this meeting, regardless of whether you want to attend in-person or via Zoom. More details and instructions for registering are on the StLGS website.

Author Patrick Murphy will discuss his two books on the Irish in St. Louis and their unique journey from being one of the most despised ethnic groups in the city to one of the most beloved. More details and instructions for registering are on the StLGS website.
