Open House Brings Out a Crowd!

For the first time in many years, St. Louis Genealogical Society hosted an open house on Saturday, 23 March 2024, and it was a great success! It was wonderful to see so many new faces as well as some old friends who stopped by to chat. Our hardworking volunteers provided coffee, cookies, and soft pretzel bites to munch on and were available all morning to greet visitors, give tours of the office, answer a myriad of questions, and encourage people to explore our website, attend our meetings, and be part of the exciting genealogical community in St. Louis.

For those of you who live out of town or just couldn't make it on Saturday, we hope these photos will give you a little taste of what our office is like and introduce you to some of the dedicated volunteers who make StLGS the thriving organization that it is. And, of course, you can still volunteer or drop by if you are in town. We welcome you at any time!

When visitors arrived, they were warmly greeted in our lobby and then escorted on tours of our office, as you can see below.

After a walk-around, visitors were encouraged to ask questions of volunteers who were positioned in our large workroom. Leaders of the German, Irish, and Jewish Special Interest Groups, members of the Ask Louie team, some of our technology team, and our membership committee were all on hand to help solve genealogy problems and answer questions. Many of our regular Saturday volunteers continued their indexing and proofreading jobs and were able to explain their work to interested visitors. It was a busy few hours, and we thank everyone who came and everyone who assisted in making the open house such a positive event!
