Some Reminders AND Some Genealogy News from our St. Louis Friends

Just a friendly reminder that the deadline to save money with early registration to our annual Family History Conference is this week—Thursday, 17 April 2025. You won't want to miss "Artificial Intelligence (AI) and DNA: Tools for Unlocking Your Past," featuring Steve Little, Jim Brewster, and Josiah Schmidt! It's a full day to learn more about the newest topics in genealogy. Details and registration are on the Family History Conference page on our website. We also want to remind you that registration for our Research Trip to the FamilySearch library in Salt Lake City is now open. This is a wonderful way to spend a week in October with fellow researchers at the world's largest genealogy library. All the information you need to learn about the trip and register is on our Annual Research Trip page, and we'll have more for you in a future post, so stay tuned! Now, we'd like to share some important information from some of our local St. Louis repositories.

New and Exciting Genealogy Information

from the Missouri Historical Society Library

The Missouri Historical Society Library and Research Center (L&RC) has been partnering with the FamilySearch library to digitize some of its enormous collection. In what may be a bonanza for St. Louis researchers, a recent L&RC news release says you can now view "hundreds of high school and college yearbooks, mostly from St. Louis but some from elsewhere; several company employee magazines; and dozens of annual social registers" on the FamilySearch website. You will need to have a username and password to access the material on the FamilySearch site, but it's entirely free and takes just a minute or two to create.

Here is how to reach the collection: https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/?search=&sort=_score&perpage=10&page=1&fulltext=1&&page=1&refine%5BOwningInstitution%5D%5B%5D=Missouri%20Historical%20Society

The L&RC says this is an ongoing project and we can expect "town, county, and congregation histories" before too long.

Another record set in the process of digitization is a collection of twelve microfilm reels of special censuses taken in the city of St. Louis in the years before and right after the Civil War. Some of the films have not yet been digitized and are available for viewing only at the Library and Research Center, but some are now on FamilySearch. These films begin in 1847 and end in 1866. You can read more about this collection and the one above in the L&RC's Genealogy and House History eNewsletter: https://mailchi.mp/bd1a692f4aa3/your-genealogy-and-house-history-update-13393361?e=02c88ed5ab
