Many of you know that our StLGS website is in the process of undeergoing an update. Our busy technology team has been working diligently on ways to best redesign our site to make it more user-friendly, easier to access on mobile devices, and more visually appealing. It's been a long, involved process of meetings and planning, but we finally settled on a local website development company and began to move ahead when a wrench flew into our plans.
Without much warning, the company that has hosted our online store for more than a decade announced they were folding and that our online store would be shut down as of today, Monday, 19 May 2025. Needless to say, that was a shock! As soon as we received this information, our technology team swung into action and began the difficult task of capturing the text and graphics from the current store in a form that could be moved to a new platform. Our website design company has worked with us to create a new store that has essentially the same look and feel as the old one but with a stable host company, enhanced security, and more modern features. Over this past weekend, we were able to test the store on a limited basis, and all seemed to work as it should. And this morning at the start of the business day, we migrated from the old store to the brand new one.We are sharing this news with you today for several important reasons:
- If all goes well, you probably won't notice much of a difference when you purchase a product or register for an event. But just in case something appears to be unusual, you will understand why the store is not the same as before.
- We hope that all of the coupon codes for StLGS members are working properly. If, for some reason, you find one that isn't, please let us know. You can respond to this post by choosing "Reply" on the email you received, or send an email to president@stlgs.org.
- You should be able to purchase items in much the same way you previously did, but since the store will have a new host, you may have to re-enter some information.
- Glitches in the store may not appear until the store is up and running again, so please be patient for a few days as we discover and repair anything that didn't transfer over properly. You can help us by letting us know if you run into a snag before we do!
- You can also help us by spreading the word to other genealogy friends or groups so if the new store works, we can all rejoice and enjoy it, but if there are any problems, people will know why those things are occurring.
Keep your fingers crossed for us! This is just the first step forward as we build a whole new website! Stay tuned!
