StLGS August Genealogy Meetings and Events

As we continue our months of quarantine, we hope you are staying healthy and productive. Behind the scenes, the volunteers at St. Louis Genealogical Society are working actively to provide our members and guests with as much as we can, given the public health crisis. We have been delighted with how well our online events, meetings, and classes are going and truly appreciate the positive feedback we have received. Here is our revised schedule for August featuring more exciting online events, information about ongoing opportunities, and (cue the trumpets!) an announcement about our upcoming Fall Speaker Series, which will be open for registration very soon.

StLGS August Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 8 August 2020, 10:00 a.m. (Central)

"A Trifecta of Disparate Sources: County Histories, City Directories, and Sanborn Fire Maps," by StLGS Information Systems Director, Bob Goode. County histories are rich in details about where your ancestors lived. City directories are a great source to use as census substitutes. Sanborn Fire Maps, from 1867 to c. 1970, are potentially a wealth of information on your city-dwelling ancestors. Find out how you can make the most of these three resources.
  • If you registered for any of the previous online monthly meetings, you do not need to do anything. You already are on the mailing list to receive an invitation to the August meeting.
  • If you have not previously registered for the livestream lecture and would like to attend, send an email to programs@stlgs.org.
  • You will receive an email invitation a few days before the meeting with a link and password for the Zoom presentation and a link to the handout.
  • Only the first 100 people who log into the StLGS presentation on Zoom the morning of 8 August can attend the live meeting due to limitations on the Zoom site. However, the recording will be available to everyone for ninety days after it is posted with no restrictions.
  • And please note: Although you can attend the meeting without any Zoom software, if you have already downloaded an older version, you may be prompted to upgrade. Be sure to do that before the meeting so you don't lose time.
More information is available on the Monthly Meeting page on our website.
