StLGS September Genealogy Meetings and Events

Although we were hoping that we could begin meeting in person again in September, with the increase in COVID-19 cases in our area, the very safest thing to do is to complete our 2021 schedule online. We hope you will join us for these exciting family history events.

In addition to our monthly meeting, German SIG meeting, and an online class, we are pleased to announce our Fall Speaker Series, featuring a full day of lectures on "Mapping Our Ancestors" in America. Read on for details!

September 2021 Virtual Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 18 September 2021, 10:00 a.m. (Central)

(Note change of date!)

"Coming to a Conclusion . . . Based on What?" by Carol Whitton, CG, StLGS Projects Director

Do you have multiple records for each event for each ancestor in your genealogy? More than one record is needed to determine which of them is more accurate, and only then can you come to logical conclusions. Registration for this meeting is now open on the StLGS website.

September 2021 StLGS Virtual SIG Meeting

StLGS German Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting

Wednesday, 15 September 2021, 7:00 p.m. (Central)

"Hofgeschichten, Häusergeschichten, and Bürgerbücher: Using Local History Sources in German Genealogical Research," presented by Scott Holl, manager of the History & Genealogy Department at St. Louis County Library

Hofgeschichten (farm histories), Häusergeschichten (building histories), and Bürgerbücher (citizen registers) are local history publications that can provide important genealogical clues and insights into your ancestors' lives. Discover each of these unique publications, how to use them, and tips for finding them. More details and instructions for registering are on the German SIG page on the StLGS website.

September 2021 StLGS Virtual Class

(Please Note: Classes are currently open only to StLGS members.)

Sunday, 19 September 2021, 1:00 p.m. (Central)

"Lineage Societies," presented by Judy Belford, StLGS librarian

There are approximately 250 lineage societies in the United States and joining one is an excellent way to honor family heritage and preserve your genealogical research. Documenting your lineage and completing a lineage society application can be challenging. We will share examples of acceptable documents that can be used as proof and provide resources for finding them. Instructions for registering are on the Current Classes page on the StLGS website.
