October StLGS Genealogy Meetings and Events

Before we get to genealogy, all of us at StLGS want to send our best wishes to our friends in Florida and the Carolinas, with hopes that you, your loved ones, and your homes are safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Our hearts are with those of you living in areas where there was destruction; please know that we are thinking of you.

Now that fall has arrived, if you still haven't ventured back out to work on your genealogy, why not plan to attend a monthly meeting? Our October monthly meeting will again be at the Thornhill branch of St. Louis County Library, but will also be livestreamed for those who can't attend in person. We have an Irish SIG meeting in October, and, in case you missed the Fall Speaker Series, the good news is you can still attend virtually! The recordings are now available, and you can register on our website. Also, StLGS members, it's time to vote in our annual election of officers! More information about everything is below.

October StLGS Hybrid Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 8 October 2022

"Finding Friends: Researching Your Quaker Ancestors," presented by Jacob Eubanks, assistant manager, History & Genealogy Department, St. Louis County Library; 10:00 a.m. (Central); free and open to all.

In-person meeting will be held at the Thornhill branch of the St. Louis County Library, 12863 Willowyck Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146. You can also attend virtually via Zoom.

Quakers, officially known as the Religious Society of Friends, are one of the earliest denominations to settle in North America, and their records are among the most detailed. Although a relatively small denomination today, if you have colonial mid-Atlantic or Midwestern ancestors, chances are good some were Quakers. Learn how to find your "friends" during this exploration of Quaker records.

No need to sign up if you plan to attend in person, but, you must register if you plan to attend this meeting via Zoom. More details and instructions are on the StLGS website.

StLGS Irish Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting

Tuesday, 25 October 2022

"Placing an Irish Ancestor into StLGS's First Families," presented by Viki Fagyal and Kay Weber; 7:00 p.m. (Central)

This meeting will be via Zoom only!

Bernard/Barney/Brian King was an Irish immigrant who came to Missouri as a child with his parents during the infamous potato famine. Careful research led to placing him in St. Louis before the Civil War and recognizing him in the First Families program. You can honor your early ancestors by enrolling them in a lineage society with knowledge of the process. More details and instructions for registering are on the Irish SIG page on the StLGS website.

Classes

The class schedule for StLGS members is completed for this year but will resume in January 2023. Many classes, however, have been recorded and are on our website, so we hope you will take advantage of our hiatus and check out what is already available. Sign yourself in first so you can access all of the recordings.

Classes are currently only open to StLGS members; why not join StLGS to get free access to all of our live and recorded classes, plus additional member benefits!

The digital recordings of the 2022 Fall Speaker Series are now online! Did you miss the in-person event? No problem—you can still register to view the recordings.
