November/December StLGS Genealogy Meetings

Happy Halloween! As the year winds down, don't forget St. Louis Genealogical Society still has a few meetings for you to attend, either in person or virtually, via Zoom. And while we are enjoying our Halloween treats, we are also hard at work planning next year's exciting calendar of events. Our November monthly meeting will again be at the Thornhill branch of St. Louis County Library, but will also be livestreamed for those who can't attend in person. We have our last Jewish SIG meeting in early December, and, in case you missed the Fall Speaker Series, the good news is you can still attend virtually! The recordings remain available until the end of the year, and you can register on our website. Also, StLGS members, today is the last day to vote in our annual election of officers! More information about everything is below.

November StLGS Hybrid Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 12 November 2022

"Families of Florissant," presented by Andrew Theising, professor emeritus of political science at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville; 10:00 a.m. (Central); free and open to all.

In-person meeting will be held at the Thornhill branch of the St. Louis County Library, 12863 Willowyck Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146. You can also attend virtually via Zoom.

Meet ten Florissant-area families with special connections to local (and sometimes national) history. Even if your ancestors did not live in this northern St. Louis County community, they likely shared some of the same experiences and may have been influenced by these prominent families.

No need to sign up if you plan to attend in person, but, you must register if you plan to attend this meeting via Zoom. More details and instructions are on the StLGS website.

StLGS Jewish Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting

Sunday, 4 December 2022

"Placing Your Ancestors into Historical Context," presented by archivist and Jewish SIG co-leader, Diane Everman; 1:00 p.m. (Central)

This meeting will be via Zoom only!

Among the first things one does as a family history researcher is find out who your ancestors were, when they lived and died, as well as everything else about their lives you can find. But life is—and was—about so much more than dates. Putting your ancestors into their historical context allows you to flesh them out. By researching and then placing your ancestors into their historical context, you can learn more about the social, religious, economic, and political environments in which they lived. More details and instructions for registering are on the Jewish SIG page on the StLGS website.

Classes

The class schedule for StLGS members is completed for this year but will resume in January 2023. Many classes, however, have been recorded and are on our website, so we hope you will take advantage of our hiatus and check out what is already available. Sign yourself in first so you can access all of the recordings.

Classes are currently only open to StLGS members; why not join StLGS to get free access to all of our live and recorded classes, plus additional member benefits!

The digital recordings of the 2022 Fall Speaker Series will remain online until the end of 2022. Did you miss the in-person event? No problem—you can still register to view the recordings.
