StLGS Office News AND June Meetings and Classes

Happy Memorial Day! The St. Louis Genealogical Society office in Maplewood has been our home for almost a quarter of a century. Its original pink walls and blue/pink/grey carpet have held up remarkably well, but the years have marched on, and our office is in much need of an update. With our landlord's approval, we have chosen paint to brighten the walls and carpet to replace torn and battered spots, and we have recently received word from our landlord that our long-awaited facelift has been approved and is about to begin. Please read on for details . . .

During the next week or so, if you come to visit, you may notice that there are boxes everywhere, the walls will be bare, and furniture will be moved. Some or all of the computers may have to be taken out of service while new carpet is laid in various parts of the office and the walls are painted. During mid-June and early July, our office will be closed sporadically to both office volunteers and visitors while the painters and carpet layers are working, so it would be a good idea to call ahead (314-647-8547) if you are planning a visit. Please note that the June monthly meeting will now be held at the Thornhill branch of the St. Louis County Library, and NOT at the office as originally scheduled. Since renovations will be in progress towards the end of the month, the June class may need to be relocated, depending on when the painters will be working. Of course, we will keep you posted as we learn more.

June StLGS Hybrid Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 10 June 2023

"Using the St. Charles County Historical Society Website as Your Gateway to St. Charles County History," presented by Greg Hilton; 10:00 a.m. (Central) at the Thornhill branch, St. Louis County Library, 12863 Willowwyck Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146; free, open to all. Did you know that St. Charles was Missouri's first capital city? That Daniel Boone and Lewis and Clark have ties to the city? The history of St. Charles goes back hundreds of years, and the society's website may help you discover your own ancestors' stories. Through examples of his personal research, Greg Hilton, member of the SCCHS, will show how using the society's website can point you to some amazing original records. You do not have to pre-register if you are attending in-person at the library, but if you want to attend via Zoom, you will need to sign up ahead of time. More details and instructions for registering are on the StLGS website.
