St. Louis Through the Ages: Exploring the City of Your Ancestors

Many of us have deep roots in St. Louis. Even if you don’t have ancestors who lived here, if you have lived in St. Louis for a good part of your life, you likely feel very close to the city’s history. For those reasons, we invite you to attend “St. Louis Through the Ages: Exploring the City of Your Ancestors,” our annual Fall Speaker Series, featuring Emily Jaycox and Dennis Northcott from the Missouri History Museum’s Library and Research Center. Emily and Dennis will present four lectures on Saturday, 16 September 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. (Central) at the StLGS office, 4 Sunnen Drive, Suite 140, Maplewood, MO 63143.

Dig Deep Into St. Louis!

Our Fall Speaker Series will give our two speakers an opportunity to share their widespread expertise on St. Louis history with all of us. Emily will first talk about using maps to learn more about St. Louis history. Her second lecture will be on Depression-era projects created as part of the New Deal, some still visible and some not, that dot the St. Louis landscape.

Dennis will help us learn more about the varied and rich resources of the Missouri Historical Society’s Library and Research Center, where he is the associate archivist. Then, he will teach us how we can discover more about the history of the homes we live in. All the lectures will be filled with examples, illustrations, and tips and hints for how to incorporate these topics into your own research. If you aren’t familiar with the scope of the collections at the L&RC, you will be dazzled by how much is there, and you will surely come away with many new ideas.

Attend In-Person or Virtually

If you cannot attend the lectures in person, you can watch from the comfort of your home via livestreaming on Zoom. Usually, Missouri Historical Society does not permit us to record their lectures, but because that Saturday is a religious holiday for some of our members, the lectures will be recorded and available for viewing on Sunday, 1 October ONLY.

Register Today!

Registration for the day includes all four lectures and handouts as provided by the speakers. An optional box lunch, catered by McAlister’s Deli, is available for pre-order only. All the information you need to register is available on our website at https://stlgs.org/events/fall-speaker-series. You can download a flyer to register via mail or telephone or you can use the link to our secure online store on that page.

If you attend the workshop in person, we hope you will save a bit of time to check out the genealogy books and other items we have for sale in our lobby. In addition to some great new books, we have a large selection of gently used items in our Trading Post, always priced for bargain hunters!

Our Fall Speaker Series brings you four fascinating talks from two local experts on our favorite city. We hope you will join us for the day!
