November/December Genealogy Meetings

As we approach the end of another busy year of genealogy meetings, classes, and special events, our StLGS volunteers are now hard at work planning next year's exciting calendar of events for you. We have one more meeting left on this year's calendar, and we have our last Jewish SIG meeting in early December. More information about everything is below.

November StLGS Hybrid Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 8 November 2025

"The Cholera Epidemic in St. Louis and the Effects it Had on Immigrants,"
presented by Lauren Rhodes, research librarian in the  Emerson History and Genealogy Center, St. Louis County Library; 10:00 a.m. (Central); free and open to all.

In-person meeting will be held at the Clark Family Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 1640 Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131. You can also attend virtually via Zoom.

The year 1849 saw a cholera epidemic sweep up the Mississippi River and take the lives of nearly five thousand St. Louisans, one-tenth of the city's population. This presentation will examine the factors that contributed to the epidemic and its impact on the city's immigrant population.

No need to sign up if you plan to attend in person, but you must register if you want to attend this meeting via Zoom. More details and instructions are on the StLGS website.

(A note on cholera: You can still watch our September monthly meeting entitled "What Did They Die From?" for more information on cholera and other epidemics that took the lives of many of our ancestors. The recording is on our Monthly Meeting page.)

StLGS Jewish Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting

Sunday, 7 December 2025

"How to Find Any Shtetl on Topographic Maps," presented by Andrew Kapochunas, internationally recognized expert on historic maps; 1:00 p.m. (Central)

This meeting will be via Zoom only.

It is possible to find even the smallest shtetl on highly detailed and downloadable topographic maps. Our presenter will give step-by-step directions on how to do so for Eastern Europe, Germany, and the Austro-Hungarian empire. More details and instructions for registering for the webinar are on the Jewish SIG page on the StLGS website.

Upcoming for 2026

Our new monthly meeting and special events calendar will be finalized very soon.
