October Genealogy Meetings and Time to Vote for StLGS Officers

Leaves are starting to fall and it's finally feeling a bit more like autumn. As our year winds down, we hope you will continue to join us for our remaining 2024 meetings and classes. For those of you who are members of StLGS, voting is now open for the election of officers for 2025. Our recent bylaws revision provides for co-presidents to share the expanding job responsibilities of leading our very active society. Also up for election this year are vice president of membership and secretary. Luckily, we have some talented and caring volunteers running for each position, and, although they are unopposed, they would appreciate your support by voting. More information about everything is below.

October StLGS Hybrid Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 12 October 2024

"Hidden Treasures on the St. Louis Genealogical Society Website," presented by Jim Ross, StLGS co-webmaster; 10:00 a.m. (Central); free and open to all.

In-person meeting will be held at the Clark Family Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63131. You can also attend virtually via Zoom.

With more than 1,600 pages, about seven million searchable names, one-of-a-kind interactive maps, and many additional resources, the St. Louis Genealogical Society website is a must-visit for those researching St. Louis ancestors. Take a tour of the site with one of our webmasters to see the highlights.

No need to sign up if you plan to attend in person, but you must register if you plan to attend this meeting via Zoom. More details and instructions are on the StLGS website.

StLGS Irish Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting

Saturday, 26 October 2024

"The Genealogy Records of Ireland" presenter TBA; 1:00 p.m. (Central)

As avid genealogists, we search for every record we can possibly find. However, looking for something that doesn't exist is a waste of time. We will look at what Irish records were generated and when, along with where to find them. Irish genealogy can be difficult, but by adding a few new tools to your toolbox, success can be yours.

You can attend this meeting in person at the StLGS office or via Zoom. More details and instructions for registering are on the Irish SIG page on the StLGS website.

Upcoming StLGS Hybrid Class

Classes for StLGS members are hybrid. You may attend in person at our office in Maplewood or via Zoom.

One more class is scheduled for 2024:

"St. Louis Resources Online" presented by Ilene Murray, StLGS publications director, will be on Saturday, 2 November 2024 at 1:00 p.m. (Central) at the StLGS office or by Zoom.

Check out the website to register for this class. In-person classes are free to members but $30 for non-members; digital recordings of all our classes are only available to StLGS members, so why not join StLGS to get free access to our live and recorded classes!

Voting for Officers for 2025 is Now Open

It's time once again to vote for a slate of officers who will serve for the next two years. Up for election this year are president, vice president of programs, and secretary. You may recall that our officer positions are staggered so that we don't have all new officers starting at once. Also, our recent bylaws amendments are making it possible for two people to share an office, if needed.

Running for co-presidents are board members Kathy Franke and Jeani Ward. Both women are longtime society volunteers, working on numerous projects and serving in leadership roles. Current vice president of membership Jim Yochim has agreed to serve another term, and board member and Ask Louie volunteer Debbie Benoit has accepted the nomination for secretary. Full biographies and photos of all the candidates, as well as a ballot, are accessible to StLGS members via the voting button on the home page. Voting remains open until the end of October, and we hope members will cast their votes soon. Thank you!
