June StLGS Meetings and Special Events

For several years, the first News Flash blog of each month has been about upcoming StLGS and other genealogy events. In March of this year, however, we went into quarantine, and all aspects of our lives began to change. Now, thanks to so much hard work on the part of many people, we can, at last, bring you a revised schedule for June featuring a variety of exciting events, all of which will take place online. No matter what the weather or where you are, you can grab a cup of your favorite beverage, get comfy in your tee shirt, shorts, and flip flops in front of your computer or tablet, and enjoy learning from some of our most experienced genealogy lecturers throughout the month. Here is what is coming up:


StLGS Monthly Meeting

Saturday, 13 June 2020, 10:00 a.m. (Central)

"Securing Your Legacy: Leave an Everlasting Memory," by Bob Goode, StLGS InfoSystems director; free, open to all; however, pre-registration is needed if you would like to view this meeting live. The meeting will be recorded and posted online; you do NOT need to register to view the recording.
  • To register for the live stream, send an email to programs@stlgs.org.
  • You will receive an email invitation a few days before the meeting with a link and password for the Zoom meeting and a link to the handout.
  • Only the first 100 people who log into the StLGS meeting on Zoom the morning of 13 June can attend the live meeting due to limitations on the Zoom site. However, the recording will be available to everyone for ninety days after it is posted with no restrictions.
  • And please note: Although you can attend the meeting without any Zoom software, if you have already downloaded an older version, you may be prompted to upgrade. Be sure to do that before the meeting so you don't lose time.

StLGS German Special Interest Group Meeting

Wednesday, 17 June 2020, 7:00 p.m. (Central)

"Everything You Know is Wrong," by Dan Lilienkamp, St. Louis County Library reference librarian, free, open to all. The meeting will be recorded and posted online; you do NOT need to register to view the recording.
  • Members of the German SIG are already registered to attend. If you are NOT currently on the German SIG mailing list, send an email to germansig@stlgs.org.
  • You will receive an email invitation on 15 or 16 June with a link and password for the Zoom meeting and a link to the handout.
  • Only the first 100 people who log into the German SIG meeting on Zoom the evening of 17 June can attend the live meeting due to limitations on the Zoom site. However, the recording will be available to everyone for ninety days after it is posted with no restrictions.

Summer Speaker Series


"Hidden Gems at the Missouri State Archives"

Featuring John Dougan, Missouri State Archivist
AND
Kelsey Berryhill and Christina Miller

Saturday, 27 June 2020, 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
AND
Sunday, 28 June 2020, 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Two lectures each day will be live streamed and all of the lectures will be recorded. An invitation to attend the live streaming with a link to the handouts will be sent to registrants a few days prior to the event. Like our online meetings, these live streamed lectures have a limit of 100 attendees. All registrants can view the recordings later at their convenience.

Lectures include:
  • "Plundering the Bounty of the Missouri State Archives" 
  • "All Hands on Deck: Using State Government Publications to Track Your Ancestor's Career"
  • "X Marks the Spot: Researching Land Records at the Missouri State Archives"
  • "Peg Legs, Rum, and Eye Patches: Reasons Your Ancestors Did Not Serve in the Civil War"
