StLGS November/December Genealogy Meetings

We hope everyone had a safe and healthy Halloween, even if it wasn't exactly the same as years past. It looks like November will be off to a sunny, mild start in our part of the Midwest, and, as we begin the countdown to the holiday season, which also will look and feel quite different this year, we want to remind you that our genealogy calendar still contains several exciting virtual events. We have one more class online, free to StLGS members, as well as an interesting monthly meeting, open to all, a Jewish SIG meeting, and our virtual Fall Speaker Series, "Often Overlooked St. Louis Resources," which is now available online as digital recordings. Here are all the details.

Please join us for the following November and December 2020 family history events:

StLGS November Monthly Meeting (free and open to all)

  • Saturday, 14 November at 10:00 a.m. (Central): "Does That Even Make Sense?" featuring St. Louis County Library reference librarian, Dan Lilienkamp  (Information about this talk is now on our website.)
    • REGISTRATION is by email only. If you would like to attend the meeting, email programs@stlgs.org to be added to the invitation list. You will receive an email invitation with a link and a password a few days before the meeting.
    • This meeting will be recorded, so if you cannot attend, you can watch the digital recording that will be posted on our website a few days after the meeting.
    • Also, PLEASE NOTE: Only the first 100 people who join the webinar can be admitted because of limitations on the host's website, so you may want to sign in a few minutes early.

StLGS Class (free to StLGS members only)

  • Saturday, 7 November at 1:00 p.m. (Central):  "Legacy Family Tree 101," featuring StLGS volunteer, Cathy Amen. NOTE: This is computer genealogy software for Windows-based computers only. You must pre-register via the Classes page on our website.

StLGS Jewish SIG Meeting (free and open to all)

  • Sunday, 13 December at 1:00 p.m. (Central): "Finding Your Ancestors at the Missouri Historical Society," featuring Missouri Historical Society Library and Research Center associate archivist, Dennis Northcott. NOTE: Although Dennis will emphasize Jewish-related records at the Library and Research Center, his talk may be helpful to anyone wanting to learn more about what is available there. (Information about this talk is now on the Jewish SIG page on our website.)
    • REGISTRATION is by email only. If you are already on the Jewish SIG mailing list, you will be invited automatically. If you are not on the mailing list and would like an invitation to attend the meeting, email publications@stlgs.org to be added to the invitation list. You will receive an email invitation with a link and a password a few days before the meeting.

StLGS Election for Officers

Thanks to everyone who voted in the StLGS election for officers. Beginning 1 January 2021, StLGS president will be Karen Goode. The vice-president for membership will remain Michelle Pearce, and the society's secretary will be Cindy Finnegan. Because Karen's election to president will leave the position of vice-president for programs vacant, ex-president, Kay Weber, will be stepping into that role. We thank Kay for serving four years as president, Paula DeRousse for serving as secretary, and Karen for serving as vice-president of programs. All have done outstanding jobs, especially during the past few months as we have navigated the murky waters of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know the society will continue to thrive under the leadership of all the new officers in the years to come.
